The pilot point is designed to go into the top of the annular cutter and connects to the magnetic drilling unit which has a spring pusher inside that is pushed upwards as the cutter is drilling through the material, then when the annular cutter cuts through the material the spring force on the drilling machine pushes the slug out of the cutter saving the operator trying to remove the slug from the cutter speeding up the time between holes.
