Deciding which hand pads to use for your application can mean the difference between a smooth and rough surface. That’s why we have put together this simple guide to understanding the options in the industry.
Before the we get to the guide, note that typically hand pads are designed for light deburring of surfaces and materials. Hand pads also often get used in applications that require clean up or blending of a surface. No matter the application, this simple guide can help you assess the options.
Comparing Against the Field
For this guide, we will look at two products: the 3M Scotch-Brite™ Pads vs. the Allfasteners Sanding Hand Pads.
Size
Both the 3M and Allfasteners had pads are 6” x 9” in size, which is the standard size of hand pad in the industry. Due to their size, both products are ideal for light deburring applications.
Applications
3M: Cleaning, scuffing and surface preparation.
Allfasteners: cleaning, light deburring, blending, scuffing and surface preparation.
Material
Both the Allfasteners hand pad and the Scotch-Brite™ hand pad are made of silicon carbide material that provide a great scuffing surface for sanding.
Due to the Allfasteners hand pad having an open structure that prevents loading compared to the competition, our hand pads have an increased life span, and can be used in wet or dry application.
Cost
3M: For a standard pack of three (3) pads: $38.35
Allfasteners: For a standard pack of ten (10) pads: $33.50
No matter the product you decide, each can provide a clean surface for your application.
