In 2016, OSHA set new regulations for fixed ladders extending over 24 feet, having the new regulations require personal fall arrest systems be installed over cages.

Obtaining the Right System
Water towers are a critical part of many municipal water systems, but due to their size, they also require proper climbing safety systems.
Whether it be to access the tower for inspection, sandblasting or access to the interior for repainting, having the proper fall protection system is a must.
Finding the Right System
Finding the right system for a water tower can sometimes be easier said than done. There are multiple factors to consider when choosing the system.
Material
When dealing with the outside of the water tower, the material the system is made of doesn’t play much of an important part. Both stainless steel and galvanized systems will provide a safe system.
When it comes time to install a system on the inside of the tank, it is best to look for options that provide a stainless steel option that all components are stainless steel.
Cost vs. Quality
No purchase goes without first weighing the cost versus the quality. When fall protection is in the name it’s best to choose a supplier that has top rated systems no matter the cost. Providing a safe climbing experience for climbers should be the top priority.
Accessories
Typically, water towers are in suburban areas, which can lead to unwanted guests gaining access to your tower – and possibly trying to climb.
When you go to make a purchase for a new system, see if the supplier has options for added accessories to prevent any unwanted climbers like ladder gates. It would be best to check in on any other wanted components like manway access points and frost free vents to help maintain your tower.
Look to an Industry Leader
At Allfasteners, we offer ladder mount assemblies for towers and water silos. With options to choose, our ladder mount assemblies come with galvanized or stainless steel wire rope, as well as all required top, bottom and intermediate brackets.
Safety is our focus, which is why we use the Travel8 energy absorber exclusively. Tested to all relevant ANSI and TIA-222 standards, our energy absorber is rated for multiple fall events for up to four climbers and provides unmatched visibility from the ground for deployment inspection.
We understand that safety climb systems need to withstand the elements for extended periods of time in an adverse environment, which is why all our systems are manufactured with stainless steel and hot dip galvanized components.
We also have the steel components required for all other application on the tower, including manway access points, tank vents, locking ladder gates, and curved mount systems designed for the top of the tower.
