Protecting your metal, mainly steel, structures from corrosion, dust or any environmental element has been sought after for decades. One of the most used techniques for doing such a thing has been galvanizing, due to its ability to extend the lifespan of the materials through a protective barrier.
When it comes to galvanizing metal, there are typically two options: hot-dip galvanizing or cold galvanizing. Each is used to perform the same task, but have complete opposite application processes.
Hot dip galvanizing is the process of coating metal in a zinc alloy by “dipping” the metal into a molten bath of zinc. This process allows the zinc alloy to adhere to the metal surface, creating a strong coating that acts as a protective barrier.
This process can take some time to complete, so when you need faster solution to protecting your metal surfaces look to cold galvanizing. The cold galvanizing process is the better solution for a more cost-effective and quick application on smaller surfaces compared to the larger structures or towers.
Unlike hot dip galvanizing, cold galvanizing is the application of a zinc rich paint, or compound, to the surface of metal. These compounds can be applied with a brush or sprayed on using the container itself. It is important to ensure the surface is clean and dust free before application of the cold galvanizing compound.
No matter which galvanizing process you decide on, each ensures that your metal surface will be protected from corrosion and other environmental elements.
Want to Know More About the Cold Galvanizing Process
Allfasteners carries an entire range of cold galvanizing compounds, sprays and coatings to protect your metal structures. The compounds require a high zinc concentration to allow proper adhesion to the metal surface, which is why our compounds contain 95% zinc concentration in our AF1000 model.
The range can be easily applied to wrought iron, steel and chain link fences with quick dry times, giving you fast, durable protection.
