Countersink bits are used to top off a pre-drilled hole with conical recess that allows a flat countersunk screw to finish flush with the material surface. They are made from high speed steel and come in smooth and hex shanks.
Countersink bits also see use in other hole applications such as cleaning, enlarging, deburring and chamfering.
