What is a Wedge Anchor?
Wedge anchors also known as concrete wedge anchor or expansion anchor, is a type of fastener used to secure items to concrete or masonry surfaces. They are useful for projects that need a strong and reliable connection. Wedge anchors are most suitable for applications where heavy loads need to be supported such as anchoring steel columns, handrails, and machinery to concrete floors or walls.
In order to meet ICC requirements and obtain approvals in certain projects, using wedge anchors is the solution, especially when high pull-out values are needed. These anchors have a unique design with a sleeve that matches the shank's width, eliminating the need for altering pre-drilled holes.
Wedge anchors are available in different sizes and materials to accommodate different load requirements and environmental factors. Our stainless steel finishes offer corrosion resistance supporting the longevity of your project.
How it works:
The anchor body consists of a threaded metal rod or bolt with a cone-shaped or wedge-shaped expansion piece at one end. To install, a hole is drilled (to match the length of the anchor) into the concrete or mansory using a hammer drill and a masonry bit that matches the diameter of the anchor. The wedge anchor is then inserted into the hole and a nut is tightened onto the threaded end of the anchor. This allows the expansion piece to wedge tightly against the sides of the hole and creates a secure connection. Now that the anchor is secure, objects can be attached.
