Marking chalk is made of mined, crushed limestone and processed into a dry powder. A dye is added to create marking chalk. It is used for marking long, straight lines on relatively flat surfaces. They may be used to lay out straight lines between two points, or vertical lines by using the weight of the line reel as a plumb line.
